- Introduction:
- -----------------
- No one really knows when Peg solitaire was invented. Some stories trace it
- to prisoners during the French Revolution, but there are published
- descriptions from at least 100 years earlier. Most likely the game is even
- older. Play is simple, yet challenging and there are many variations. One
- of the pleasures of playing the game on your computer is that you can
- quickly set up the board to try different strategies.
-
- Playing the Game
- -----------------
- To start, pick "Play" from the main menu, then choose one of the puzzles
- from the pushbutton menu that appears. Some of the puzzles have more than
- one setup. If this is the case, you'll need to enter a number.
-
- To play, click on any yellow button, using the left mouse button. The
- button will be depressed and turn green. Then indicate the place to jump to
- by moving the mouse and pressing its left button again. You can only jump
- over single buttons to an empty space.
-
- Press the Goal icon to see how the game ends. Usually you need to reduce
- the buttons to one button. If there's a target space that this button has
- to occupy, it will be shown in red. Sometimes more than one button will be
- in the final pattern.
-
- Strategy?
- ---------
- Try to break up the larger puzzles into smaller pieces. For example, if you
- learn how to clear a line of 3 buttons, or an arm of 6, or an L shaped set
- of buttons, you will be able to use that to help solve the larger puzzles.

- through bulletin board systems or national networks.
-
- As a recipient of a shareware program, you may use the software for a short
- trial period to determine if it meets your needs. If the software is not
- suitable, then you can discard it. If you decide to use it, you must pay by
- registering. When you register a Cascoly shareware program, you receive:
-
- * A copy of the latest version of the program
- * A bonus of any other Cascoly program of equal or lesser value
- (see REGISTER.FRM for details)
